BRONX, N.Y. – The Providence College softball team fell to the Fordham Rams, 5-3, on Wednesday, April 24 in Bronx, N.Y. The Friars fell in an early 4-0 hole in the first inning and brought the game within two runs, twice, but failed in a final rally to give Fordham the 5-3 victory.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Rams jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Fordham scored on an RBI single to open the scoring before tallying one more run on a fielder's choice, capped off by a two-run home run.
- Providence brought the game to 4-1 in the top of the second inning.
Molly McGarry (Edina, Minn.) hit a fly ball to the center fielder that
Mackensie Compton (Langhorne, Penn.) tagged up on second base, the third baseman made a fielding error on the throw allowing Compton to score.
- McGarry picked up her third RBI of the season in the top of the fourth inning to bring the Friars within two, 4-2. McGarry hit a two out RBI single to right center field to score Compton.
- Fordham increased its lead to 5-2 in the top of the fifth with a lone insurance run. The Rams scored on a fielder's choice to second base.
- Compton hit her third home run of the season in the top of the sixth to make it a two-run game once again, 5-3. Both sides failed to score for the remainder of the game.

Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) pitched all six innings for the Friars, she allowed four earned runs on eight hits. She struck out three batters in the game.
- Compton scored all three runs for the Friars.
Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.),
Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.), McGarry and
Hadley Tate each tallied a hit alongside Compton.
ON DECK:
Providence will host Butler for its final BIG EAST series at home this weekend with a double header on Saturday, April 27 before wrapping up the series on Sunday, April 28 with a 12:00 p.m. first pitch.
