Softball Falls To Seton Hall, 5-4

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –  The Providence College softball team fell to the Seton Hall Pirates on Saturday, April 20 by a score of 5-4. It was a back and forth battle between the Friars and the Pirates until extra innings when Seton Hall won the game with a RBI single. Providence falls to 25-18 overall and 6-8 in conference play.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
-The Pirates scored first in the top of the first with a RBI single from Darby Pandolfo (1-0). 
-Seton Hall had runners on first and third in the top of the third with two outs. Chrisa Head hit a sacrifice fly to score Baylee Allender to extend the lead, 2-0. 
-Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Cali.) started the Friars off in bottom of the third with a double down the left field line. Mackensie Compton (Langhorne, Penn.) hit a two run homerun to score Portillo, tying the game 2-2.
- The Pirates took the lead in the top of the fifth with a solo homerun from Baylee Allender (3-2).
-The Friars tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, 3-3. Jackie Martin (Bridgeton, N.J.) reached second on an error to score Annie Flego (Little Silver, N.J.). Providence extended their lead to 4-3 after Martin scored on an unearned run. 
- The Pirates hit back-to-back singles in the top of seventh with runners on first and second. Baylee Allender hit a RBI single to center field, scoring Hailey Arteaga, tying the game 4-4. 
- The Pirates had runners on first and second in the top of the eighth. Hailey Arteaga hit a RBI single to score Briana Wallace giving Seton Hall the lead (5-4). 
- Daniela Alverez (Santa Ana, Calif.) earned the start in the circle. She pitched six innings and tallied four strikeouts. Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) was the relief, coming in for the sixth inning. McCune tallied one strikeout and pitched two innings. 
- Providence tallied eight hits in the game and one error.
 
ON DECK:
Providence will travel to New York, N.Y. on Wednesday, April 24 to match up against Fordham. First pitch is at 4:00 p.m.
