PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team returns home to play Harvard on Tuesday, April 16 at 4:00 p.m. on Glay Field. The Friars are coming off a seven-game road trip where they defeated Brown and Central Connecticut State in non-conference action, before taking the first game of a three-game series against Villanova on Saturday, April 6. The team then fell to Villanova (twice) and most recently DePaul (twice) over the weekend.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
Providence dropped to 23-16 overall this season and 5-6 in the BIG EAST after dropping its first two games of a scheduled three-game series against DePaul on Saturday, April 13. The series finale was cancelled due to weather.
Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) has led the Friars at the top of the lineup, posting the 15
th best batting average (.448) in the country and the first in the BIG EAST. She has tallied 48 hits on the season, leading the conference and ranking her 48
th nationally.
Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) and
Hadley Tate (Yarmouthport, Mass.) are tied for the team lead in home runs (three) and the Friars have hit 16 total home runs this season.
Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.) leads the team with 20 RBI, Tomaso is just behind with 18 RBI.
Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) and
Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) have combined for 19 of the team's 23 wins in the circle. Alvarez holds a 2.36 ERA while McCune has posted a 3.22 ERA in 21 appearances. Alvarez has struck out a team-high 95 batters and holds a BIG EAST best, 5.11 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
SCOUTING HARVARD:
The Crimson have a 16-14 overall record and 9-3 mark in the Ivy League. The team is coming off five-straight wins against Columbia and Boston University before a series sweep against Dartmouth.
The freshman duo of Trina Hoang and Teagan Shaw lead the Crimson in batting average, Hoang holds a team-high .329 batting average while Shaw follows with a .319 batting average. Shaw and Hoang have combined for 27 RBI and 47 hits.
Harvard has seen three pitchers make at least 18 appearances this season, Katie Duncan, Grace Krantz and Alissa Hiener. Duncan holds the lowest ERA out of the three with a 10-3 record, 2.64 ERA and 70 strikeouts. Krantz has pitched the second most innings on the team (59.2) and posts a 4.93 ERA and 6-4 record.
ON DECK:
The Friars will play a three-game series against Seton Hall beginning on Thursday, April 18 at 4:00 p.m. on Glay Field. The teams will wrap up the series on Saturday, April 20 with a double header beginning at 12:00 p.m.
