Softball Takes On DePaul In Three-Game Series

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will travel to Chicago, Ill. for a three-game series against the DePaul Blue Demons with a double header on Saturday, April 13 at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., followed by the series finale on Sunday, April 14 at 12:00 p.m. Providence enters the series in fourth place in the BIG EAST with a 5-4 conference record.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE: 
The Friars hit the road with a 5-5 away record compared to their perfect record at home, 6-0. The team holds a 12-9 record on neutral fields, dating back to their pre-season tournaments in Clearwater, Fla. Most recently, the Friars are coming off a 5-4 win at Central Connecticut State on Thursday, April 11. Providence now holds a 5-4 conference record, which is good for fourth in the BIG EAST.
 
Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) has been a force at the top of the lineup, tallying a team-high 49 hits and 23 runs. She has posted a .450 batting average, going 3-3 at the plate against Central Connecticut State. Lee is coming off being recognized on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, April 8. Freshman Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) has been a threat in the cleanup hole, recording a .303 batting average with three home runs, tied for first on the team with Hadley Tate(Yarmouthport, Mass.). 
 
Providence's pitching staff has been on a tear at this point of the season, having three separate pitchers with a sub 3.00 ERA and at least 45 innings pitched. Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) posts a 12-5 record with 2.08 ERA, a conference best. Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) has started 10 of her 15 appearances for a 3-2 record and 2.40 ERA. Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) has a 7-5 record with a 2.82 ERA in 72 innings pitched.
 
SCOUTING DEPAUL:
The Blue Demons enter the weekend with 26-9 overall record and 6-1 conference mark. DePaul is second place in the BIG EAST, one win behind St. John's. In the team's most recent series, they swept Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7.
 
DePaul has five separate players hitting above .300 with limited weaknesses in its lineup. Morgan Greenwood leads the charge with a .354 batting average in 28 games played. She has 28 hits in 79 at-bats and has hit four home runs. As a team they have hit 28 home runs, with five players hitting at least four on the season.
 
Natalie Halvorson and Krista Dalgarn have handled the work in the circle, pitching all 238.1 innings for the Blue Demons. Halvorsen has a 15-5 record and 2.58 ERA while Dalgarn holds a 3.07 ERA and 11-4 record. The duo has combined for 145 strikeouts and 17 complete games.
