CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Providence College softball team extended their win streak to four games after defeating Army West Point, 4-3, and Saint Francis (Pa.) in their second game of the day in extra innings, 2-1, on Saturday, March 9 in Clearwater, Fla. The games were part of the USF-Clearwater Parks and Recreation Showcase.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Providence trailed 3-2 heading into the sixth inning before they plated one run each in the final two innings to prevail 4-3 over Army West Point.
- The Black Knights earned the first three runs of the game in the top of the third inning. Army West Point plated one with an RBI single then Jolie Doung hit a two-run home run right field.
The Friars answered immediately scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Lauren Nunez (Rowland Heights, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch as
Annie Flego (Little Silver, N.J.) came in behind her on a throwing error. Providence trailed 3-2 after four innings of play.

Taylor Stephen (Monarch Beach, Calif.) tied the game, 3-3, in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double to right center field that plated
Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.).
- Providence walked it off in the bottom of the seventh after Flego scored her second run of the game on a fielding error by the shortstop.

Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) pitched six innings giving up three earned runs on six hits.
Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) came in for relief in the seventh and struck out one while giving up zero hits. McCune was the pitcher of record and earned the win to improve to 3-1 on the season.
- Lee, Stephen,
Jackie Martin (Bridgeton, N.J.) and Allison Abbatiello (North Salem, N.Y.) all tallied hits while Flego went 2-3 at the plate.
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- The Friars earned their second one-run victory of the day with a 2-1 win over Saint Francis (Pa.) after scoring two runs in the top of the eighth inning.
- Neither team could chalk up a run until the game reached extra innings. Abbatiello was placed on second to begin the eight before Lee brought her home with an RBI single to center field.
Jessica Tomaso followed with an RBI double to left center to enter the bottom of the eighth with a 2-0 lead.
- Saint Francis (Pa.) attempted to come back in the bottom of the eighth after an RBI single but could not score the tying run.

Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) pitched eight innings giving up nine hits and one unearned run. She recorded eight strikeouts in the game and earned the win to improve her record to 5-2 on the season. Alvarez now holds a 1.41 ERA.
- Lee and Tomaso each had two hits with
Molly McGarry (Edina, Minn.) and Nunez recording one apiece.

Providence will wrap up play in the USF-Series by taking South Dakota State at 9:00 a.m. followed by Saint Joseph's at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 9.
