PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team improved to 2-0 at home this season after defeating the Bryant Bulldogs, 3-1, on Tuesday, Mar. 26 at Glay Field. With the win, the Friars are now 16-12 on the season.
HIGHLIGHTS:
-Bryant scored first in the top of the third inning. The bases were loaded when the Bulldogs scored on an error by
Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) on a ground ball.
- The Friars tied the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the third inning after a RBI double from
Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.), scoring
Annie Flego (Little Silver, N.J.).
- The low scoring affair stayed at 1-1 until the fifth inning, when the Friars put up the final two runs of the game.
Hadley Tate (Yarmouthport, Mass.) knocked in Portillo with an RBI single, followed by
Taylor Stephen hitting a hard ground ball to second base that was ruled an error to score
Danielle Towle (Bridgewater, N.J.).
- Trinidad pitched six innings, allowing three hits and zero earned runs. She tallied two strikeouts and improved to 2-2 on the season with the win.
Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) relieved Trinidad to pitch the seventh. Alvarez struck out one batter while allowing zero hits, she earned her first save of the season.
- Portillo tallied two doubles on the day accompanied by two hits from
Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.). Tate and
Crista San Antonio (East Meadow, N.Y.) also added singles.
- Providence improves to 2-0 at Glay Field this season.
