PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team is set for its home opener on Tuesday, March 19 against Sacred Heart. The matchup has been moved to a double header, the first game will start at 2:30 p.m. and the second game at 4:30 p.m.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
Providence has started the season 12-10 overall. Most recently, the Friars competed in the USF-Michelle Smith Pediatric Cancer Spring Invitational where they dropped their first three games to Columbia, Towson and Colgate. Providence ended the weekend outscoring their opponents, 15-1, with wins against Florida A&M (8-0) and Lafayette (7-1).
Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) has bolstered the top of the lineup for the Friars, posting a team-high .397 batting average and 23 hits. She is also tied for the team lead in RBI (nine).
Mackensie Compton (Langhorne, Penn.) and
Jackie Martin (Bridgeton, N.Y.) are the other Friars hitting above .300, Compton is hitting .324 with 11 hits while Martin holds a .314 average and five RBI.
Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) and
Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) have been dominant in the circle. Alvarez has started 10 games, pitching six complete games. She posts a 1.56 ERA and 7-3 record. McCune has started four out her 12 appearances, holding a 4-3 record and 2.35 ERA. McCune was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on March 18.
SCOUTING SACRED HEART:
The Pioneers are currently 12-8 on the season, winning their last four games. Most recently, Sacred Heart posted a 4-1 record in the Mason Invitational where they fell to East Carolina before beating George Mason and Cornell two times each.
Senior Hailey Desrosiers and junior Katelyn Christian lead the offense, Desrosiers is hitting .444 while Christian posts a .359 batting average. Cristian has a team-high four home runs and tallied 23 hits on the season.
