Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Competes at Brown University Invitational

The men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in Providence, R.I. on Feb. 16.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Brown University Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 16. The Friars had six athletes win their respective events.
On the men's side there were four individual winners for the Friars. The first win of the day came from senior Jared Grossi (Warwick, R.I.) in the 400 meters. Grossi ran 52.09 to take first, while teammate Joseph Hurton (Wakefield, Mass.) was not far behind finishing second in a time of 52.26.
Sophomores Jack Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) and Angus White (New Plymouth, New Zealand) each won their respective races for the Friars. Carleo ran the 800 meters, outkicking the field in the last 100 meters to win the race in a time of 1:56.74. White ran the mile and took the lead from the gun. He would go wire to wire to win the mile in a time of 4:19.58. White finished six seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Junior Liam Harris (Douglas, County Cork, Ireland) had a strong race for the Friars in the 3,000 meters. Harris positioned himself in fourth for most of the race. With 600 meters to go, Harris took the lead and began to push the pace. He would battle it out until the finish, winning the race in a time of 8:37.61.
On the women's side, there were two individual winners for the Friars. The first win of the day for the women came from sophomore Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) in the Mile. Coffin took the lead from the start and gapped the field with 400 meters to go. She would go on to win the mile in a time of 5:07.20, nine seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Freshman Hannah McReavy (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the other individual winner for the Friars' yesterday in the 3,000 meters. McReavy positioned herself in second for the first 800 meters. After 800 meters, McReavy took the lead and began to push the pace for the rest of the race. She would go on to finish first in a time of 10:58.10, 22 seconds ahead of second place.
