JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – The Providence College softball team wrapped up the River City Leadoff Tournament with a 5-3 win over UMass-Lowell on Sunday, Feb. 10. The Friars improve to 3-2 on the season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- UMass Lowell jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning after Harding crossed the plate on a throwing error.
-The bottom third of the lineup set up the top of the order to plate three runs in the top of the third inning and take a 3-1 lead.

Jackie Martin (Bridgeton, N.J.) led off the inning with a single, followed by a double by
Alison Abbatiello (North Salem, N.Y.) to place runners on second and third.
Lauren Nunez (Rowland Heights, Calif.) singled up the middle to plate Martin while
Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) brought in Abbatiello on a sac fly. Tomaso plated the third run of inning with an RBI single through the left side.

Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) got out of a bases loaded jam with one out in the bottom of the third inning, she struck out the six-batter swinging and the seven-batter looking to end the threat.
- The Friars padded their lead with back-to-back home runs in the top of the sixth inning. Both home runs marked the first of the season for
Mackensie Compton (Langhorne, Pa.) and
Hadley Tate (Yarmouthport, Mass.). Providence led 5-1 after six innings.
- The River Hawks chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, Labbe singled through the right side while Sheldon scored on a throwing error. UMass Lowell added one more run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single but could not comeback as Providence prevailed, 5-3.
- Alvarez started her second game of the season and improved to 2-0 after throwing four innings and giving up zero earned runs.
Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) relieved Alvarez and gave up zero earned in two innings.
Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) followed to pitch the seventh and gave up one earned to earn the save.
- Lee, Tomaso and Nunez each added hits to accompany Compton and Tate's home runs. Martin and Abbatiello each tallied two hits apiece.
ON DECK
Providence will travel to Orlando, Fla. to play in the D9 Citrus Blossom Tournament from Feb. 15-17. The Friars will play Saint Joseph's in game one on Feb. 15 at 11:00 a.m.
