Friars face UNH on Friday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m., followed by a match-up against No. 14 Iowa on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE: The Providence College field hockey team enters the weekend with a 2-3 overall record, having won its last two games against Brown (1-0) and Bryant (4-1). The Friars are 1-3 this season on the road, after opening the year with three-consecutive losses to Cal (5-1), UC Davis (3-2) and Pacific (2-1).
Through five games, eight different Friars have cracked the scoring column, including four players with multiple goals. Junior Allyson Parker (Orange, Mass.) leads the offense with seven points on three goals and one assist. Fellow juniors Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.), Kara Sanford (Hazelton, Pa.) and Mikayla Michals (Needham, Mass.) have each scored two goals on the year for four points apiece. Sophomore Maddie Babineau (Milton, Ontario) leads Providence with three assists.
Last week, Parker was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after scoring three goals in the team's two victories over Brown and Bryant. She tallied the game winner against Brown with 3:10 left in regulation, and went on to score Providence's first two goals of the game against Bryant the following day, marking the first multi-goal game of her career.
Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.) has played 280 minutes in the cage for the Friars and owns a 2.00 goals against average and a 0.667 save percentage. She posted the first shut-out victory of her career against Brown (1-0), with two saves. Rice is 2-2 on the season. Sophomore Cassie Kincaid (Hammonton, N.J.) played 70 minutes in a 3-2 loss against UC Davis. She recorded the first three saves of her collegiate career after facing 11 total shots - six of which were on goal.
Providence trails the all-time series against UNH, 21-13. The most recent match-up between the two teams took place during the 2015 season, with the Wildcats taking a 2-1 victory. The Friars are 0-6 all-time against Iowa, with the most recent meeting between the two teams dating back to the 2011 campaign. That year, the Hawkeyes took a 4-1 victory in Providence, R.I.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE: The New Hampshire field hockey team enters the weekend with a 1-2 overall record. The Wildcats opened the season with a 3-2 victory over Massachusetts, but have dropped back-to-back games against nationally-ranked opponents No. 19 Boston University (4-0) and No 15 Harvard (4-1). Overall, UNH has been outshot, 24-8, in the first half of action this season. However, the Wildcats have held the advantage in shots in the second half of play, 16-14.
Nicky Bajus has a team-high three points for UNH on one goal and one assist. She assisted on the game-tying goal vs. UMass and scored New Hampshire's lone goal vs. Harvard. Kelsey Rudert has played 183 of 210 minutes in the cage this season and owns a 3.82 goals against average and 0.600 save percentage.
SCOUTING IOWA: The Iowa field hockey team enters the weekend with a 3-1 overall record and are ranked No. 14 in the nation. The Hawkeyes' only loss to this point came against No. 2 North Carolina, 2-1, in overtime. Iowa has defeated No. 14 Wake Forest (2-1), Dartmouth (6-0) and Ball State (7-1).
Maddy Murphy leads Iowa with 12 points on four goals and four assists. Katie Birch checks in with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Leslie Speight has started all four games in goal and owns a 0.97 goals against average and a 0.852 save percentage, to go along with one shutout.
