Field Hockey Travels To Georgetown For BIG EAST Match-Up

The Friars and Hoyas will square off at 2:00 p.m. on Friday in Washington, D.C.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (10-6, 3-2 BIG EAST): Providence College enters the weekend with a 10-6 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the BIG EAST Conference.  The Friars are currently sitting in third place in the BIG EAST standings, with Georgetown (2-3), Old Dominion (2-3) and Villanova (2-3) in a three-way tie for fourth place.

After starting the season 0-3, the Friars have come alive to win 10 of their last 13 games, including seven of their last eight matches.  Three of Providence's six losses have come against nationally-ranked opponents: No. 14 Iowa (1-0), No. 15 Old Dominion (6-1) and No. 3 Connecticut (3-0).  The Friars have out-shot their opponents, 200-163, through 16 games, including a 124-99 advantage in shots on goal.  Providence also has held a 110-79 edge in penalty corners.

Ten players on the roster have scored at least one goal for Providence this season, including eight players who have tallied three-or-more goals.  Junior Allyson Parker (Orange, Mass.) leads the offense with 16 points on six goals and four assists.  Fellow junior Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) ranks second on the team in scoring with 15 points on a team-best seven goals and one assist.  Sophomore Maddie Babineau (Milton, Ontario) checks in with 12 points on three goals and a team-best six assists.  Junior Kara Sanford (Hazleton, Pa.) rounds out the list of double-digit scorers with 10 points on four goals and two assists.

Senior goalkeeper Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.) is a two-time BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week selection (10/1, 10/15) and has been selected to the Weekly Honor Roll on one occasion (9/10).  She has played 1,034 minutes in the cage and owns a 1.42 goals against average and a 0.744 save percentage.  Rice has recorded five shut-out victories this season.


SCOUTING GEORGETOWN (10-5, 2-3 BIG EAST):  Georgetown enters the weekend with a 10-5 overall record and a 2-3 mark in the BIG EAST Conference.  Georgetown has reached double-digits in the win column for the first time since 2001. The Hoyas are 6-0 at home on Cooper Field in Washington, D.C.  

Cami Osborne leads the team in scoring with 20 points on nine goals and two assists  Lindsay Getz ranks second with 19 points on eight goals and three assists.  Michaela Bruno (12 points) and Emily Fraser (10 points) have also reached double-digits in the scoring column this season.  Bruno owns five goals and two assists, while Fraser has tallied four goals and two assists.  Jax van der Veen leads Georgetown with seven assists and has added one goal for nine points.

Ciara Weets has played 996 minutes in goal for the Hoyas and owns a 1.97 goals against average and a 0.705 save percentage.

As a team, the Hoyas have out-shot their opponents, 183-172, including a 115-198 edge in shots on goal.  Georgetown has earned 102 penalty corner opportunities this season, compared to 108 by its opponents.
