WASHINGTON, D.C.– The Providence College field hockey team defeated Georgetown, 2-1, in a shootout on Friday, Oct. 19 in Washington, D.C. The game was deadlocked, 1-1, after regulation and two scoreless overtime periods. However, the Friars used a 3-0 advantage in the shootout to claim the victory. Providence College also clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Field Hockey Tournament with its victory, as the program improved to 4-2 in league play. The Friars join Connecticut and Liberty in the field, and the fourth and final spot remains up for grabs.

- The Friars led the Hoyas in shots (3-1), shots on goal (2-1) and penalty corners (3-1) after the opening 35 minutes of play.
- Providence got on the board for a 1-0 lead with just 1:05 left in the first half, as
Mary O'Reilly connected on her fourth goal of the season.
- The Friars maintained their lead until late in regulation as Georgetown's Sam Hickey connected for her first goal of the season at 61:16. The goal would eventually force overtime.
- After two scoreless overtimes, the game was decided in a shootout.
- Providence took the victory with a 3-0 advantage in the shootout. Sophomore
Maddie Babineau (Milton, Ontario) scored on the Friars' first attempt. Freshman
