Softball Travels To Bryant And Hosts Dayton In Midweek Games

The Friars will face Bryant on Wednesday, April 1 at 5:00 p.m. and Dayton on Thursday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team (14-12, 7-2 BIG EAST) is set to play Bryant (11-15, 2-1 America East) on Wednesday, April 1, at 5:00 p.m. in Smithfield, R.I. The Friars will return home on Thursday, April 2, to host Dayton (15-12, 6-6 Atlantic 10) on Glay Field, with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.  

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE 

Providence enters Wednesday's matchup winning 10 of its last 12 games. They recently opened conference with a program-best 7-1 start. Additionally, their eight-game winning streak, which also tied a school record, came to an end over the weekend. 

The Friars have three players who are closing in on 100 career hits. Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.), Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) and Elisa Smith (Glenn Allen, Va.) are all within single digits of the milestone. 

 
Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) leads the Friars with a .407 batting average. Last week she was named BIG EAST Player of the Week following a standout performance in Providence's series sweep of DePaul. The senior batted .667 (6-for-9) with seven RBI and five runs scored, while posting a .889 slugging percentage and a .727 on-base percentage for the series.   

  
Dunn has had an impressive season for Providence so far. The infielder has been featured on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times and leads the team with 29 RBI, 10 home runs and a .919 slugging percentage. Her 10 home runs are tied for second in the BIG EAST and her .919 slugging percentage puts her at second in the conference.   
 
In the circle, junior Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) leads the pitching staff with a 6-1 record and a 3.23 ERA. She has recorded 35 strikeouts in 39.0 innings pitched. Twomey's 3.23 ERA ranks second in the BIG EAST. 

SCOUTING BRYANT 

The Bulldogs enter Wednesday's game with an 11-15 overall record and a 2-1 mark in America East play. The Friars are 2-0 against the Bulldogs so far this season, with wins coming at Maryland and at home on Glay Field.  

Alissa West leads Bryant offensively with a .379 batting average, adding two home runs and 10 RBI while posting a .517 slugging percentage. Bryce Clendenin has also been a key contributor, batting .349 with a team-high 13 RBI and a .468 on-base percentage.  

In the circle, Maddy Wachter anchors the pitching staff with a 6-3 record and a 3.09 ERA across 63.1 innings pitched. She has recorded 28 strikeouts and thrown seven complete games this season. Brooke Tracy has also seen significant action, making 14 appearances and tallying 17 strikeouts in 51.2 innings of work. 

SCOUTING DAYTON 

The Flyers enter Thursday's matchup with a 15-12 overall record and a 6-6 mark in Atlantic 10 play. 

Deirdre Flaherty leads Dayton offensively with a .360 batting average, adding two home runs and a team-high 20 RBI while posting a .493 slugging percentage. Kirnan Bailey has been a catalyst at the top of the lineup, batting .352 with 24 runs scored and 25 stolen bases. Katelin Goodwin provides power in the middle of the order with a team-high five home runs and 18 RBI, along with a .537 slugging percentage. 

In the circle, Izzy Kemp anchors the pitching staff with a 9-3 record and a 1.55 ERA across 85.2 innings pitched. She has recorded 151 strikeouts on the season. Kate Kastelic has also contributed, posting a 3.11 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 36.0 innings of work.

The Friars remain home after Easter break for another midweek matchup on Tuesday, April 7 against Holy Cross at 4:00 p.m.
