Softball Bests Seton Hall, 11-2, In Six Innings

The Friars improve to 7-1 in the BIG EAST, marking the best start to conference play in program history.


SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.- The Providence College softball team (14-11, 7-1 BIG EAST) defeated Seton Hall (11-17, 2-9 BIG EAST) in game two of a three-game series on Saturday, March 28. The Friars extended their win streak to eight and improved to 7-1 in the BIG EAST, marking the best start to conference play in program history.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Providence took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning behind a RBI from Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) and Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.), along with a home run from Brianna De La Fuente (Metuchen, N.J.).
  • The Friars extended their lead to 6-0 in the second inning as Hailey Frantz (Danville, Calif.) scored on an error, while Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) and Peterson each recorded an RBI.
  • Providence added a run in the third after Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) scored on an error to make it 7-0.
  • Seton Hall responded with two runs in the fourth to cut the deficit to 7-2.
  • The Friars added to their lead in the sixth as Dunn delivered a three-run home run and Renny went deep for a solo shot, making it 11-2.
  • Addy Frye (New Castle, Pa.) pitched a scoreless sixth inning to close out the game for Providence.
  • Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) earned the win and recorded three strikeouts in four innings of work.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, March 29, to close out the series against Seton Hall. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in South Orange, N.J.
