COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS - The Providence College softball team kicked off its season at the Aggie Classic, hosted by Texas A&M on Friday, February 6. The Friars defeated Bryant University, 1-0, in game one and fell to No. 11 Texas A&M, 9-1, in game two. Senior
Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) led the team with three hits across seven at-bats through both games.
BRYANT NOTES (GAME 1)
- The Friars opened the scoring in the first inning when Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) homered on the second at-bat of the Friars' season, giving Providence the early 1-0 lead.
- Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) pitched a scoreless first four innings allowing one hit and recording six strikeouts to keep the Friars in the lead, 1-0.
- Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) came in and relieved Twomey and pitched three scoreless innings, recording two strikeouts.
- The Friars finished with six hits and two errors.
TEXAS A&M NOTES (GAME 2)
- The Friars opened the scoring with a run on an RBI double from Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) at the top of the second to take the lead, 1-0.
- The Aggies responded with four runs to take the lead, 4-1, through the third.
- The Friars remained scoreless through the sixth as Texas A&M extended their lead to 9-1 to win the game.
- The Friars finished with four hits and one error.

The Friars return to action tomorrow, February 7, for day two of the Aggie Classic. They will face Utah State at 3:00 p.m. (ET) followed by a game against No. 1 Texas Tech at 8:00 p.m. (ET).
