The Friars will play the Bulldogs on Wednesday April 9 at 6:00 p.m. on Glay Field.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College softball team will host the Bryant Bulldogs in a non-conference game on Wednesday, April 9 on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The matchup is slated for 6:00 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Bryant but has been moved to Providence College.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Providence enters the mid-week matchup with a 14-21 record overall and an 8-7 mark in BIG EAST play. The Friars went 3-1 last week, picking up a non-conference win over Boston University and taking two of three games from Seton Hall to secure a BIG EAST series victory.
Sophomore Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) paced the Friars last week with a team-high six hits, four RBI and two runs scored, posting a .462 batting average and an impressive .500 on-base percentage. She played a key role in the Friars' 6-5 walk-off victory in the opening game over Seton Hall, sparking the offense with a two-run single and finishing the game with a walk-off single with two-outs in the bottom of the seventh. Dunn leads the squad with 40 hits, seven home runs and 32 RBI. She currently holds a .707 slugging percentage and a .479 on-base percentage.
Graduate student Tori Grifone capped off last week with a 1-0 record and a 1.20 ERA across 11.2 innings of work. She allowed just two earned runs on eight hits while holding opposing batters to a .195 average. In game two against Seton Hall, Grifone delivered a complete-game performance, going the full seven innings while limiting the Pirates to three hits and two earned runs. She recorded five 1-2-3 innings and finished with one strikeout.
SCOUTING BRYANT
Bryant heads into the game with an 11-21 overall record and a 3-6 mark in America East action. Most recently, the Bulldogs were swept in a three-game series at Binghamton (April 4-5).
Meaghan Houk leads the Bulldog batting lineup with a .366 batting average, 21 RBI, .577 slugging percentage and a .427 on-base percentage. Maddy Wachter commands the circle with a 6-4 record and a 4.12 ERA. She holds 41 strikeouts so far this season.
ON DECK
The Friars will host UConn in a three-game BIG EAST series beginning on Friday, April 11. The first two games will stream on FloSports and the series finale will stream on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
