Softball Hosts Boston University In Mid-Week Clash

The Friars will play the Terriers on April 2 at 3:00 p.m. on Glay Field.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College softball team will host the Boston University Terriers in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, April 2. The game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The game will be available for stream on FloSports. 

"We are excited to take on a very good Boston University team this Wednesday," Head Coach Kelsey Christensen said. "We believe they will continue to prepare us for the remainder of our challenging and exciting BIG EAST schedule." 

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE 

Providence enters this mid-week home game with an 11-20 overall record, including a 6-6 mark in BIG EAST play. The Friars most recently dropped a three-game series at St. John's.  

Senior Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.) delivered strong performances at the plate last week, recording five hits, three RBI and five runs scored. She finished the four games with a .846 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage.  

Sophomore Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) leads the BIG EAST in doubles (five), ranks seventh in hits (13 in BIG EAST), and stands ninth in on-base percentage (.512). She recorded four hits across the Friars' four games last week. 

Sophomore Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) paced the Friars last week with a team-high seven hits, three RBIs, and three runs scored, posting a .500 batting average and an impressive .857 on-base percentage. She played a key role in the Friars' 10-1 victory over URI, sparking the offense with a two-run triple to open the scoring. Dunn leads the squad with 34 hits, seven home runs and 28 RBI. She currently holds a .744 slugging percentage and a .476 on-base percentage.  

Sophomore Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) finished last week's play with a 1-2 record and a 2.62 ERA. She pitched a total of 16 innings while conceding only six earned runs and 11 hits. Twomey registered 12 strikeouts and a .190 batting against average.  

 SCOUTING BOSTON UNIVERSITY  

The Terriers enter the mid-week series with a 22-10 overall record, including a 6-0 mark in Patriot League play. Boston University most recently swept conference foe, Colgate, in a three-game series last weekend (March 28 & 29).   

Brooke Deppiesse leads the BU lineup in batting average (.434), hits (43), doubles (10), slugging percentage (.808) and on-base percentage (.496). She is currently ranked fifth in the nation in triples per game (.19). Kylie Doherty follows with a batting average of .350. She leads the team with 32 RBI and eight home runs.  

Kasey Ricard leads the pitching staff for Boston University. The junior leads the nation with 136.1 innings pitched. Ricard holds a 14-6 record with 137 strikeouts and a .220 batting against average.  

ON DECK  

The Friars will host Seton Hall (19-14, 7-5 BIG EAST) in a three-game BIG EAST series beginning on April 4 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The opening game is slated for 3:00 p.m., with all games available on FloSports.
