Softball Defeats George Mason, 6-1, In Final Day Of Charge On Classic

ORLANDO, Fla.- The Providence College softball team defeated the George Mason Patriots, 6-1, in the Friars' final contest of the Charge On Classic on Sunday, March 2, in Orlando, Fla. The Friars finished 2-3 in Charge On play to move to a 2-12 overall mark on the season. Sophomore Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) recorded her fourth home run of the season and second of the weekend, finishing 2-3 from the plate. Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) and Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) each finished with two RBI on the day.

GAME NOTES VS. GEORGE MASON

Lee opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first (1-0).
Dunn followed with a home run in the fourth. It marked her fourth of the season and second of the weekend (2-0).
The Friars added three more runs in the fifth highlighted by a two-run RBI single by Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) (5-0).
Lee drilled another RBI single in the sixth to bring the lead to 6-0.
The Patriots scored a late run in the seventh, but the Friars were able to finish on top, 6-1.
Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) pitched a complete game for Providence, earning her first win of the season. The senior recorded six strikeouts while conceding only five hits and one earned run across 28 at-bats.

ON DECK
The Friars will kick off their BIG EAST schedule by hosting the Creighton Bluejays in a three-game series from March 7–9. The contests will be played on Glay Field in Providence, R.I., with the opening game streaming on the BIG EAST Network and the next two airing on FloSports.
