PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team defeated Butler University (15-7, 4-1 BIG EAST) 10-0, in five innings, on Saturday, March 15 on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 6-15 including a 3-2 mark in BIG EAST play. Seniors
Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) and
Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) each knocked in three RBI. Aldrich paced the Friars with a 3-for-3 effort from the plate. Sophomore
Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) pitched a complete game shutout for the Friars, recording five strikeouts.
GAME NOTES
- The Friars opened the scoring with two runs in the first with RBI doubles from Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) and Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.).
- Providence took a 5-0 advantage leading into the third inning. The bottom of the second was highlighted by a two-run single by Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.).
- The Friars added five additional runs in the third that extended the lead to 10-0. Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Mass.), Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.), Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.), Dunn and Aldrich all recorded RBI that inning.
- Aldrich went 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in three runs and scoring once.
- The Friars outhit the Bulldogs, 13-2. Seven Friars recorded hits.
- Petrarca recorded her 100th career hit.
- Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) pitched a complete five innings for the Friars. The sophomore recorded five strikeouts while conceding only two hits across 16 at-bats.
