ORLANDO, Fla.- The Providence College softball team dropped two games in the second day of the Charge On Classic on Saturday, March 1, in Orlando, Fla. The Friars fell to Georgia Southern, 5-3, in the game one before being defeated by the host team, UCF, 7-0. Providence moved to 1-12 on the season.
Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) led the lineup with a two-run RBI double that opened the scoring against the Eagles.
GAME NOTES VS. GEORGIA SOUTHERN
-Douma opened the scoring with a two-run RBI double that scored
Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) and
Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.) (2-0).
- The Eagles responded with five runs across the second, third and fifth innings (5-2).
- PC found a late-game surge after
Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) hit an RBI single. However, it wasn't enough to shift the momentum and the Friars fell, 5-3.

Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) finished with a team-best 2-3 effort at the plate.

Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.),
Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) and
Jessica Walter (Middleton, Del.) each spent time in the circle for the Friars. The three pitchers conceded seven hits and five earned runs. Walter held the Eagles without hits across the final 1.2 innings, finishing with three strikeouts.
GAME NOTES AT UCF
- The two teams went hitless through the first three innings.
- The Knights got on the board with three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the sixth (7-0). The Friars were unable to find the answer and fell 7-0.

Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) and
Alannah Hopkins (Sylva, N.C.) split time in the circle. Grifone finished with two strikeouts. The two pitchers conceded 10 hits and seven earned runs.

The Friars will round out Charge On play with a final game tomorrow, March 2, against George Mason at 9:00 a.m. in Orlando, Fla. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
