Batista is the first Friar to receive this recognition since Luis Garcia in 2022.
KANSAS CITY, Mo.- It was announced today (Aug. 9) that Providence College men's soccer player Diego Batista (Barcelos, Portugal) was named to the 2024 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Players To Watch list for midfielders. Batista is the first Friar to receive this recognition since Luis Garcia in 2022.
Batista joined the Friars last year for the 2023 campaign, where he started all 17 games for Providence. He finished the season with one goal and five assists which earned him an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection.
The United Soccer Coaches Players to Watch lists are being released for the first time this 2024 season to promote college soccer leading up to the official start date for the regular season later this month. These lists include United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and first or second team All-Region players from 2023, who are scheduled to return for the 2024 season.
Providence College finished last year's regular season ranked second in the BIG EAST East Division. The Friars qualified as the third seed in the BIG EAST Tournament where they defeated the No.6 seed Creighton Bluejays in the Quarterfinal Round.
The Friars will open the 2024 season against Quinnipiac on Aug. 22. The match will be played on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium and is scheduled to kick-off at 7:00 p.m. To view the entire 2024 Providence College men's soccer schedule, click here.
