Softball Takes Down Seton Hall, 6-3

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.- The Providence College softball team defeated the Seton Hall Pirates (17-14, 8-6 BIG EAST), 6-3, on Saturday, April 6 in South Orange, N.J. The Friars improved to 14-16 overall and 5-9 in the BIG EAST. Junior Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) went 3-for-4 at bat and knocked in two RBI. Sophomore Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) followed suit as she went 2-for-2 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored.

GAME NOTES

-SHU gained an early lead with a run in the bottom of the second inning, 1-0.

-The Friars tied the score (1-1) in the top of the third when Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.) grounded out to second base to score Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.).

-The Pirates gained a 3-1 advantage scoring runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

-PC found the answer in the top of the sixth as it scored five runs to take a 6-3 lead.

-Aldrich (2 RBI), Lee, Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.), Kaelyn Loncharich (Yucaipa, Calif.) and Eitchen all drove in runs.

-The Friars were able to fend off Seton Hall in the seventh inning to earn the 6-3 win.

-Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) and Twomey split time in the circle for the Friars pitching 3.2 and 3.1 innings, respectively. Grifone faced 19 batters, striking out four while allowing six hits and three earned runs. Twomey earned her 10^th win of the season as she struck out two batters and conceded three hits. Twomey did not give up a run.

ON DECK

The Friars will close out series play against Seton Hall on April 7 in South Orange, N.J. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 12:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FloSports.
