Softball Falls To George Mason, 9-2, On Day Two Of UNCW Tournament

The Friars will play the final game of the tournament tomorrow against Merrimack and UNCW.

WILMINGTON, N.C.- The Providence College softball team was defeated by the George Mason Patriots (3-7), 9-2, on Feb. 24 in the second day of the UNCW Tournament in Wilmington, N.C. The Friars fell to a 2-5 overall record and have posted a 1-1 record on the weekend.

GAME NOTES

-The Friars opened the scoring with two unearned runs by Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) and Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) at the bottom of the second.

-The Patriots took the lead with three runs in the top of the third.

-George Mason extended its lead to 8-2 following five runs in the top of fifth.

-The Patriots closed game with a run in top of the seventh.

-Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.), Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) and Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) all split time on the circle pitching 4.0, 2.1 and 0.2 innings, respectively.

ON DECK

The Friars will close out UNCW Tournament play with a doubleheader on Sunday (Feb. 25) against Merrimack College at 10:50 a.m.and UNCW at 1:10 p.m. in Wilmington, N.C.
