Former Friar Kevin Vang Signs to RIFC

Midfielder Kevin Vang signs to his hometown club.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Former Providence College midfielder and captain Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.) signed with Rhode Island FC on Tuesday, Feb. 20. During his five-year tenure with the Friars, Vang appeared in 83 matches, contributing four goals and nine assists while playing a total of 4,877 minutes.
"We are very proud and excited for Kevin as he starts his professional career with RIFC!" Head Coach Craig Stewart said. "Our coaching staff has known Kevin since he was eight years old and playing for Bayside FC. W we watched him further develop at the Revolution Academy and were honored to have him as a student-athlete and captain of our team as he earned his degree from Providence College. [Kevin Vang] is a great player but an even better person. Kevin is a fantastic role model for any local kid who dreams of doing big things!"
Vang helped the Friars to a 12-5-4 overall record in 2021, including a 5-2-3 mark in the BIG EAST Tournament, advancing to the BIG EAST Championship Game for the sixth time in program history and allowing Providence to earn its 11th NCAA Tournament berth. The Friars advanced to the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Friars were inside the top-25 of the United Soccer Coaches Poll for eight-consecutive weeks to close the regular-season schedule.
RIFC will make its USL Championship debut on March 16 against New Mexico United at Bryant University's Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, R.I.
