Asia Porter was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 22. Sophomore midfielder
Bo Martina also was recognized as a BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selection. The duo played a critical role in the Friars' 3-2 double-overtime victory against No. 5 Connecticut in BIG EAST regular-season action on Oct. 18.
Porter held the league's top-scoring team to just two goals enroute to the victory in net. She registered five saves in the game. She earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career, having previously been recognized as a BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selection on five occasions.
Martina scored the Friars' game-winning goal versus Connecticut with 6:06 remaining in double-overtime. It marks the third time this season that Martina has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Through 14 games overall, Martina is tied for the team lead in points (13) on four goals and a team-best five assists.
Providence returns to action on Friday, Oct. 25 against Georgetown. The match will be played in College Park, Md. at the University of Maryland and is scheduled to begin at Noon.
