PROVIDENCE, R.I.- PC men's soccer will travel to No. 3 Akron to open BIG EAST play for the 2023 season. This season marks the first for the Zips in the BIG EAST Conference. The match-up on Friday, Sept. 15 will be the first encounter between the two teams in either program's history.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS…
•The Friars are looking to bounce back after losing 3-2 to UMass on Sept. 9.
• This match-up will mark the second time this season the Friars take on a top-five school. Onn Aug. 24, they opened the season by playing No.1 Syracuse, eventually falling 2-0.

Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.) leads the team in goals with three. McSorley is tied for first in BIG EAST Conference for game-winning goals with two, he is currently tied for second in shots per game (3).

Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.) earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, Sep. 5, after his goal against Hofstra on Sep 1., and his game-winning assist at URI on Sep. 4. He is currently tied for second in assists in the BIG EAST Conference with three.
•Goalkeeper
Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) is fifth in the BIG EAST Conference in saves (18) , and sixth in saves per game (3.6).
•Providence men's soccer was picked to finish second in the East Division in the BIG EAST Preseason Men's Soccer Coaches' Poll, earning one first-place vote and a total of 56 points.

Luis Garcia (Gran Canaria, Spain) and senior forward
Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.) were each named to the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team for the second season in a row. Garcia played in 13 games for the Friars with 11 appearances in the starting line-up during the 2022 season, and finished with one goal and four assists. He was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Players to Watch List for Midfielders as well as the 2022 Hermann Trophy Watch List.
•Diarbian started in all 17 games for the Friars during the 2022 season, and led the team with four goals and five assists. He was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Players to Watch List for Forwards in 2022 and concluded the season as a member of the ALL-BIG EAST Second Team and selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Third Team.
SCOUTING THE ZIPS…
• Akron is coming into the match-up with a win streak of three after defeating #11 FIU on Sept. 11.
• Jason Shokalook leads his team in goals (three) and assists (two), totaling eight points on the season.
• Dyson Clapier was named to the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. He currently has two goals on the season.
•Akron leads the BIG EAST in shots (108), goals against average (.333), and shutouts (four).
• Goalkeepers Seth Wilson and Mitch Budler lead the BIG EAST in save percentage (.889) and goals against average (.333)
