PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The BIG EAST Conference released its 2023 Preseason Men's Soccer Coaches' Poll and preseason honors today (Aug. 15). Providence men's soccer was voted to finish second in the East Division of the BIG EAST Preseason Men's Soccer Coaches' Poll, earning one first-place vote and a total of 56 points overall. Luis Garcia (Gran Canaria, Spain) and senior forward
Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.) were each named to the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team for the second season in a row.
Garcia played in 13 games for the Friars with 11 appearances in the starting line-up during the 2022 season, finishing with one goal and four assists. He was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Players to Watch List for Midfielders as well as the 2022 Hermann Trophy Watch List.
Diarbian started in all 17 games for the Friars during the 2022 season, leading the team with four goals and five assists. He was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Players to Watch List for Forwards in 2022, concluded the season as a member of the ALL-BIG EAST Second Team and selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Third Team.
