PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team welcomes the University of Connecticut Huskies to Glay Field in Providence, R.I. for a three-game BIG EAST series from March 17 – March 19.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
The Friars enter the weekend with an 8-11 overall record and 1-2 record in conference play. Providence went 1-2 in its opening BIG EAST series against St. John's on March 10 and March 12.
Junior
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) paces the Friars lineup at the top of the order, as she has accumulated a .364 batting average at the plate. She also leads the team in hits (20), homeruns (5), runs (12) and slugging percentage (.673). Sophomore
Rachael Petrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) has also contributed at the plate this season recording 14 hits and a .298 batting average.
Junior
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) has gone 4-5 in the circle in 2023 pitching 53.1 innings. She has struck out 74 batters and has allowed 66 hits. Senior
Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) has recorded a 2.24 ERA in the circle through 25.0 innings.
SCOUTING UCONN
Connecticut enters the series with a 12-7 overall record and a 2-1 record in BIG EAST play. The Huskies went 2-1 in their opening BIG EAST series against Seton Hall on March 10 and March 12 in Storrs, Conn.
Junior Jana Sanden and freshman Grace Jenkins lead the Huskies at the plate tallying 19 hits each. Sanden has registered a .380 batting average through 17 games and Jenkins has recorded a team-high five homeruns.
Freshman Hope Jenkins has pitched 50.2 innings for the Huskies registering a 6-1 record. She has recorded a 3.73 ERA and has struck out 39 batters.
ON DECK
The Friars will host Stonehill College in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 22 on Glay Field in Providence, R.I.
