QUEENS, N.Y. – The Providence College softball team was defeated by St. John's University, 2-1, in BIG EAST action on Sunday, March 12 in Queens, N.Y.
GAME NOTES
-The Friars gained a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Senior
Tiana Wren (Glen Lyon, Penn.) singled and then advanced to second on a St. John's error allowing sophomore
Lea Kosinski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) to score for Providence.
-In the bottom of the fifth inning, London Jarrard hit an RBI single to tie the game, 1-1.
-The Red Storm's Cassify Stouffer singled to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning with players on second and third allowing St. John's to score.
-Junior
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) made her ninth start in the circle this season for the Friars. She pitched 5.0 innings and struck out eight batters. Senior
Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) relieved Grifone in the circle and pitched the remainder of the game.
ON DECK
The Friars will host UMass in their home opener on Wednesday, March 15 on Glay Field in Providence, R.I.
