Comeback Effort Falls Short At Penn State In 73-66 Loss

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Providence College women's basketball team rallied from a 20-point deficit to take a five-point lead in the fourth quarter against Penn State, but the come-back effort fell short. The Nittany Lions escaped with a 73-66 victory at the Bryce Jordan Center on Nov. 26 and improved to 6-1 on the year. The Friars evened their record at 3-3.
1ST QUARTER:
• Penn State led 11-9 at the media timeout (4:07).
• Penn State went on an 18-0 run over the final four minutes to close the quarter with a 29-9 lead
• PSU shot 71-percent (12-17) from the field in the opening quarter and held a 20-0 advantage in points off turnovers.
• The Friars were 3-11 from the field (0.273) and committed eight turnovers.
2ND QUARTER:
• Both teams were cold from the field in the opening four minutes of the second until the Friars' Kendall Eddy collected a steal and went coast-to-coast for the lay-in at the 6:03 mark (29-11).
• The bucket ended a scoring drought of 10 minutes.
• The Friars scored six-straight points before Penn State hit its first field goal of the quarter at the 3:10 mark (32-15).
• Providence outscored Penn State 14-8 in the second quarter to make it a 37-23 game at the half.
3RD QUARTER:
• An 11-0 run by the Friars during a span of 1:38 got the Friars within four with 4:07 to play (45-41).
• Penn State ended a scoring drought of 4:05 with a three-point field goal with 3:03 to play (48-41).
• Providence used a 7-0 run over the final 2:08 of the quarter to get within one (49-48).
• The Friars outscored the Nittany Lions 25-12 in the frame.
• Olivia Olsen, Brynn Farrell and Marta Morales Romero combined for 19 points in the quarter.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Friars took their first lead of the game on a lay-in by Farrell at the 8:34 mark (50-49).
• Farrell's bucket sparked a 6-0 run to extend the Friars' lead to 54-49.
• PSU regained the lead with a 6-0 run of its own (55-54).
• Kylee Sheppard scored three-straight points to put Providence back on top, 57-55, at the final media timeout with 4:27 to play.
• A Morales Romero lay-up gave Providence a 59-55 lead, but the Lady Lions regained the lead with an 8-0 run with 1:47 to play (63-59).
• Olsen hit one of two free throws and then stole the ball on the ensuing inbounds play and got the bucket to get Providence back within one (63-62) with 1:22 to play.
• Penn State was 8-8 from the foul line to seal the win (73-66).
NOTES:
• Providence outscored Penn State 57-44 over the final three quarters of play after trailing 29-9 after the first.
• Olsen paced the Friars with 15 points and added nine rebounds.
• Farrell recorded her first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 11 rebounds to go along with three assists.
• Morales Romero rounded out the double-digit scorers for Providence with 11 points.

• The Friars return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 29 against Columbia. The game will be played at Levien Gymnasium in New York, N.Y. and is scheduled to tip-off at 11:00 a.m.
