Columbia Defeats Women's Hoops, 77-52

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated, 77-52, by Columbia on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Levien Gymnasium in New York, N.Y. Olivia Olsen paced the Friars with 15 points and nine rebounds.
1ST QUARTER:
• Columbia used an 8-2 run early in the first to take an 11-6 lead.
• Olsen cracked double figures in the scoring column with 3:55 left on the clock in the first quarter, registering 10 of the Friars' 12 points to start the game (13-12).
• Providence trailed 20-17 after the opening 10 minutes of play.
• Olsen was 4-5 from the field in the first quarter and the team shot 7-14 overall from the field (.500).
2ND QUARTER:
• The Friars opened the second quarter with a 5-0 spurt to take a 22-20 lead.
• The Lions answered with a 6-0 spurt of their own over the next 1:46 to lead 26-22 (6:36).
• Nariah Scott hit her second three of the game to halt a 2:26 minute scoring drought for the Friars (29-25), but the Columbia answered with a 12-0 run.
• Providence was scoreless for a span of nearly five minutes until Ugne Sirtautaite converted a lay-up at the right block with 11-seconds left in the half.
• Columbia outscored the Friars 24-12 in the quarter and took a 44-29 advantage into halftime.
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence got back-to-back buckets inside the first 45-seconds of the third quarter but suffered scoreless drought of more than four and a half minutes to find itself down 52-33 at the media timeout (4:51).
• Columbia extended its lead to 22, but the Friars closed the quarter with a 10-0 run to make it a 57-45 game.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Lions opened the fourth quarter with a 12-0 run to mount a 69-45 lead midway through the quarter.
• Sarah Bandoma got the Friars on the board with a put-back at the 4:46 mark.
• Columbia maintained control of the game with a 20-7 scoring edge in the final 10 minutes to win 77-52.
NOTES:
• Olsen finished the day with a team-best 15 points and nine rebounds.
• Marta Morales Romero matched her career high in assists, with five.
• Scott and Farrell each completed the game with eight points.
• Sirtautaite added six points and seven boards.
• The Friars shot just 18.5-percent from the field in the second half (5-27).
• Providence dropped to 0-3 on the road this season.
• The Friars will play three of their next four games at home in Alumni Hall.
