Women's Basketball Defeated At Marquette, 78-61

Teneisia Brown scored a season-high 24 points on 11-21 shooting.

MILWAUKEE, WIS. – The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated, 78-61, at Marquette on Feb. 4 in Milwaukee, Wis. The Friars moved to 10-14 on the season (3-9 BIG EAST). The Golden Eagles improved to 16-7 (10-4 BIG EAST).
 
1ST QUARTER:
• The two teams traded baskets through the first 5:08 of the game and Providence held a 9-8 lead at the media timeout.
• The largest lead for either team was three points and was held by Providence at the 4:19 mark (11-8).
• Marquette led 19-18 at the intermission.
Teneisia Brown scored 10 points in the first quarter on 5-9 shooting from the field.
 
2ND QUARTER:
• The Golden Eagles used a 12-0 run to claim a 36-23 lead (4:09).  
• Marquette extended its run to 20-2 to go ahead by 17 with 1:10 on the clock (44-27).
• Brown scored with 27-seconds left for her game-high 16th point to make the score 44-29 at the half.
• Marquette outscored Providence 25-11 overall in the second quarter.
 
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence was held off the scoreboard until the 4:48 mark of the third on a lay-up from Orlagh Gormley
• The bucket sparked a 6-0 run to make it a 53-35 game.
• Marquette took a 60-42 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
4TH QUARTER:
• Providence fought back in the final frame and cut the deficit to 10 (69-59) with 3:30 to play.
• Marquette halted the momentum with a 9-2 run, which included three triples.
• The Golden Eagles claimed a 78-61 win.
 
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Brown recorded her first 20+ point game as a Friar. She finished with 24 points on 11-21 shooting.
Sabou Gueye played just 20 minutes due to foul trouble but finished the game with 10 points.
Orlagh Gormley recorded six points and team-highs in rebounds (seven) and assists (four).
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 8 against Xavier. The game will be played at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to tipoff at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
