FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Providence College women's basketball Head Coach Erin Batth announced today [April 29] that 5-9 red-shirt freshman guard Taylor Barner (Cary, N.C.) has signed an athletic aid agreement to attend Providence in 2026-27.

"Taylor is an explosive combo guard who will help us on both ends of the floor and has a high basketball IQ," Batth said. "She was a four-star recruit out of high school and is a three-level scorer who will also be very disruptive on defense. We're excited to have her join our program."

Barner attended East Carolina University in 2025-26 and played 30 games with two appearances in the starting line-up. She averaged 10.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game. She scored in double figures 13 times, including four games with 20+ points. Barner scored 30-or-more points in two games for the Pirates, including a 32-point effort against Charleston Southern on Nov. 11 and 30 points against Wofford on Dec. 17. For the season, she shot 39.2-percent from the field (105-268) and 83.9-percent at the free-throw line (73-87). At one point during the season, she converted 33-consecutive free throws.

Barner began her college career at the University of Memphis in 2024-25 but did not compete while recovering from an injury. Prior to college, Barner played at Panther Creek High School, where she was a four-start recruit in the Class of 2024. She led her team to the 2023 North Caroline State Championship and three Southwest Wake Athletic Conference titles. Barner earned numerous accolades in high school as a three-time First-Team All-Conference pick, a two-time NBCA All-District selection and a NBCA First-Team All-State honoree. She completed her career at Panther Creek as the all-time leading scorer and claimed NBCA Player of the Year recognition as a senior.
