Former Friar Julian Gressel Called To USMNT Training Camp

Training camp kicks off on Jan. 21 and will feature matches against Serbia (Jan. 25) and Colombia (Jan. 28).
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Former Providence College soccer stand-out Julian Gressel '16 has been called for USMNT Biosteel January Training Camp. Gressel is among the list of 24 players to participate in the training camp, including one of 11 players to receive first senior team call-up.
Training camp is set to begin on January 21, with matches against Serbia (Jan. 25) at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. and Colombia (Jan. 28) at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif.
Gressel earned First-Team All-America honors with the Friars in 2016 and was among the 15 finalists for the MAC Hermann Award. He was drafted by Atlanta United in 2017 and went on to win MLS Rookie of the Year (2017). Gressel helped Atlanta United claim the MLS Cup in 2018. Gressel remained with Atlanta United through the 2019 campaign and joined D.C. United during the 2020 and 201 seasons. Gressel was traded to the Vancouver Whitecaps of the MLS. In July 2022.
During Gressel's time at Providence, the Friars made three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the 2014 College Cup Semifinal. In 2013, the Friars advanced to the NCAA Second Round and also made a Quarterfinal run in 2016. Providence claimed the BIG EAST Tournament title in 2014 and earned the BIG EAST Regular-Season title in 2016
