Gevork Diarbian Named To United Soccer Coaches Division I Players To Watch List For Forwards

Gevork Diarbian joins Ramzi Qawasmy and Luis Garcia, who were previously named to the organization’s players to watch list for defenders and midfielders.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College men's soccer player Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.) was named to the 2022 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Players To Watch list for Forwards on Aug. 16. He joins Ramzi Qawasmy, who was recently featured among the NCAA Division I list of Players To Watch for Defenders on Aug. 9 and Luis Garcia, who was named to the NCAA Division I list of Players To Watch for Midfielders on Aug. 12.
 
Diarbian started in all 21 games for the Friars during the 2021 season. As a sophomore he tallied 12 points on three goals and six assists. Two of his six assists came during the Friars' NCAA Tournament run. At the end of the 2021 season, Diarbian was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team, the All-BIG EAST Second Team and the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Second Team.
 
The lists are being released for the first time this season by the Division I All-America Committees to promote college soccer leading up to the official start date for the regular season later this month. The lists include United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and first or second team All-Region players from 2021, who are scheduled to return for the 2022 season.

Providence College heads into the 2022 campaign ranked No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll. Providence finished the 2021 season with a 12-5-4 overall record, including a 5-2-3 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. The Friars qualified for their 20th BIG EAST Tournament, claiming the No. 2 seed and a First Round bye and advanced to the title game. 
 
The Friars' postseason run continued in the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in program history, as the squad advanced to the Third Round. Providence defeated Marist (2-0) and No. 14 seed and defending NCAA National Champion Marshall, 2-1, in double-overtime before falling to No. 7 seed Georgetown, 4-1.
 
Providence College finished the regular-season schedule with a No. 18 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches' Poll, which was released on Nov. 9. Providence was ranked inside the top-25 of the poll for eight-consecutive weeks to close the regular-season. The Friars were ranked No. 16 in the organization's final poll of the season.
 
The Friars open the 2022 season against Colgate on Aug. 25. The match will be played on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium and is scheduled to kick-off at 1:00 p.m. To view the entire 2022 Providence College men's soccer schedule, CLICK HERE.
