Men’s Soccer Selected Fourth In BIG EAST Preseason Poll

Paulo Lima and Ramzi Qawasmy were named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
Providence, R.I. – The BIG EAST released its 2021 Preseason Coaches' Poll and preseason honors today (Aug.18). The Providence College men's soccer team was picked to finish fourth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll for the upcoming fall season. The Friars earned 67 points in the poll. Georgetown, who is ranked No. 5 in the 2021 NCAA Men's College Soccer Preseason Top 25, accumulated 98 points and eight first place votes in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll to take first place. Seniors Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal) and Ramzi Qawasmy (Landsdale, Pa.) were named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. The BIG EAST released its 2021 Preseason Coaches' Poll and preseason honors today (Aug.18).
Providence hopes to return to the BIG EAST Tournament this season, making eight appearances in 10 seasons under Head Coach Craig Stewart. Last season, the Friars finished 4-4-1 overall and 3-3-1(BIG EAST), during an abbreviated schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lima was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team in his junior season. Lima finished the season with two points and one goal while starting all eight games he appeared in. During his career, Lima has previously been named Preseason All-BIG EAST (2020-21), BIG EAST All-Tournament Team (2019) and All-BIG EAST Second Team (2019).
Qawasmy earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors in his junior season. In the 2020-21 abbreviated season, the junior played every minute of the Friars' nine-game season. This is Qawasmy's third league honor, as he was selected to BIG EAST All-Freshman Team (2018) and All-BIG EAST Second Team (2019).
The Friars open the 2021 season against Fordham (Aug. 26) on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. On Sep. 18, the Friars open conference play on the road against the 2020-21 BIG EAST Champion Seton Hall.
