PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College senior midfielder
Maddie Babineau (Grimsby, Ontario) was named to the 2020 NFHCA Division I Senior Team. The organization announced its selections to the squad on May 19. Babineau, who is one of 38 student-athletes selected to the Senior Team, finished her career at Providence College this spring.
The in-person 2020 NFHCA Senior Game was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the 2021 Virtual Coaches Caucus, the NFHCA Division I membership agreed to continue to recognize a selected group from the graduating class of 2021 who either played or would have played their senior season during the 2020-2021 academic year. All 10 Division I conferences and five NCAA regions that sponsor field hockey are represented on the list of 2020 honorees.
Babineau started all 66 games in the midfield for Providence and recorded 27 points on six goals and 15 assists. She also helped guide the Friars to three BIG EAST Tournament appearances in her four seasons. Babineau also excelled in the classroom having been named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team and NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad.
In a shortened 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Babineau started all nine of the Friars' games and recorded one assist in a match against conference foe Quinnipiac (March 5).
Babineau is a two-time All-BIG EAST selection. She was named to the Second Team in 2019 and earned First-Team honors in 2020-21.
