PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team tied Butler University, 4-4, in nine innings on Sunday, April 25 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars move to 3-12-1 on the season and 2-9-1 in BIG EAST play.
HIGHLIGHTS
-The Friars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a double to right center junior from
Madi Traver (Irving, Texas) to send home
Molly McGarry (Edina, Minn.),
Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.), and
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.)
-Providence increased their lead by one, 4-1, with a double by
Lauren Nunez (Rowland Heights, Calif.) to right field that sent home a run by
Sarah Gunderson (Upper Saddle River, N.J.).
-In the top of the fifth, Emily Perrelle, Alyssa Garcia, Bri Avery, and Lauren Fey all scored for the Bulldogs, tying things up at 4-4.
-The remainder of the game was scoreless, and the Friars and Bulldogs finished nine innings in a 4-4 tie.
Junior
Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) started on the mound, pitched 5.0 innings, allowed three hits, and struck out five batters. Gunderson pitched the final 4.0 innings, allowing only one hit and striking out four batters.

The Friars will return to action with a three-game BIG EAST series versus UConn on Tuesday, April 27 (3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.) and on Wednesday, April 28 (1:00 p.m.)
