Providence College’s Paulo Lima Named To The Preseason All-BIG EAST Team

Friars selected second in the East Division of the BIG EAST Preseason Poll.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal), of the Providence College men's soccer program, was voted to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, which was announced by the conference office today (Feb. 1). The Friars also were selected to finish second in the East Division of the BIG EAST Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Lima started every game for the Friars in the 2019 season and scored a career-high 18 points. The midfielder led the team in goals (eight) on 37 shots and added two assists. Lima was named to the 2019 BIG EAST All-Tournament Team, All-BIG EAST Second Team and United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Second Team.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the league will play its schedule this spring and has split into two divisions. The East Division consists of Connecticut, Georgetown, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's and Villanova. The West Division includes Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Marquette and Xavier.
With one first-place vote, Providence was voted to finish second (20 points) in the East Division of the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Friars finished in third place last season with an overall record of 16-7 and 6-3 in BIG EAST play. Georgetown, the reigning tournament champion, was selected to finish first with five first-place votes (25 points). Behind PC, St. John's, who finished second in regular season play last season, was picked third (17 points). Connecticut (13 points), Seton Hall (8 points) and Villanova (7 points) finish out the standings for the East Division.
The Friars open the 2021 spring season at home on Saturday, Feb. 13 against Rhode Island. The match will kick-off at 1:00 p.m on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
