The Friars continue Hockey East play against Merrimack College on Jan. 15 and 17. Puck drop is Friday at 4:00 p.m. at Lawler Rink and Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena.

Providence earned a 5-2 road victory over Holy Cross this past weekend (Jan. 9).Â
Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) netted the equalizer in Saturday night's win at Holy Cross before picking up the game-winning helper to lead the Friars to a 5-2 win. She rifled seven shots on net during the game and was plus three in the contest.Â

Hjalmarsson leads the charge offensively for the Friars in points (twelve) and assists (eight).Â
Annelise Rice (Excelsior, Minn.) is the team leader in goals (five) and has seven total points. FreshmanÂ
Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) also has seven points (two goals, five assists). 16 different Friars have points on the season and 12 players have recorded at least one goal.

Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) has made 10 starts in net. She holds a .943 save percentage and a 1.59 goals against average. The netminder has made 264 total saves and has two shutouts.

Hockey East Award Winners Â
Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) andÂ
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) were named Hockey East Player of the Month and Hockey East Goaltender of the Month, respectively, for November and December 2020, as announced on Monday, Jan. 4. Abstreiter has been previously recognized twice this season as Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week. (Nov. 23 and Nov. 30).
Hjalmarsson has played in all eight games for the Friars this season and is currently leading the team in points (10) and assists (6). She tied for the lead among all Hockey East players in points in both November and December. The junior forward is averaging 1.25 points per game, has assisted on three game-winning goals, and is a +10 on the season. She has recorded three multi-point games, including an impressive three-assist performance against Maine on Dec. 18, helping the team to a 4-0 win. The Friars are 6-0-0 when Hjalmarsson records a point.
Abstreiter has started all eight games for the Friars in the 2020-21 season and has recorded 207 saves, stopping 87 out of 90 shots she faced in December alone. The senior netminder led the league in shutouts (2) for the month of December and tied for the lead in wins (3). She also has registered the most wins by an NCAA goaltender for the 2020-21 season. Overall, she has posted a 6-1-1 record, has a 1.24 goals against average and a .954 save percentage this season.

Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) was recognized as the Women's Hockey Commissioners' Association National Goaltender of the Month, as announced on Tuesday, Jan. 5.

Scouting the Warriors
Merrimack College is 1-5-0 overall and 1-5-0 in Hockey East play. The Warriors are currently ranked tenth in the Hockey East . Last weekend, Merrimack split at with Boston College. The Warriors fell to the Eagles in both matches by a score of 3-5 on Friday and 1-3 on Saturday.

Who to Watch
Merrimack's top three scorers return this season, including Mikayla Grant-Mentis who led the team last season in points (33) with 20 goals and 13 assists. Other returning top scorers include Dominika Lásková and Keisha DiCaire who notched 17 and 13 points last season, respectively.
