No. 7 Women’s Hockey Shuts-Out Merrimack

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's hockey team defeated the Merrimack College Warriors, 3-0, in a shutout game on Friday, Jan. 15 at Schneider Arena. Senior Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) buried the game-winner 3:34 into the middle frame and netminder Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) secured the shutout with 22 saves.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-The first period ended in a scoreless draw, with Providence posting a 16-12 advantage in shots. 
 
-Sara Hjalmarsson opened up the scoring for the Friars handing Providence the lead 3:34 into the second period. Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.) and Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) earned the assist on Hjalmarsson's fifth goal of the season.
 
-Ciare Barone (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) added insurance for the Friars with a goal 17:24 into the middle frame, putting the Friars ahead 2-0. Barone was assisted by Hunter Barnett (Caledon, Ontario) and Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) on her first goal of the season.
 
-Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) buried an empty netter with 1:11 to go in regulation to bring the final score to 3-0.
 
-Overall, Abstreiter made 22 saves to help the team to the shutout.
