Women’s Hockey Falls In Overtime To No. 6/8 UConn, 2-1

Reichen Kirchmair scored the lone goal for the Friars.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's hockey team fell to No. 6/8 UConn, 2-1, in overtime on Friday, Feb. 6 at Schneider Arena. The Friars dropped to 9-18-2 overall and 6-11-2 in Hockey East play while the Huskies improved to 20-7-2 and 13-5-1. Senior Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) scored the lone goal for the Friars.

GAME FLOW
  
1st Period
-The Huskies opened the scoring at 13:43 of the period from Livvy Dewar. Julia Stephen and Christina Walker recorded the assists.
 
-Shots on goal after 20 minutes were 9-6 in favor of the Friars.
 
2nd Period
-The teams skated scoreless through the second period.
 
-The Huskies were awarded three power play opportunities, including a five-on-three chance for 23 seconds. The Friars killed all three penalties. Providence was awarded one power play late in the period and had 52 seconds remaining heading into the third.
 
3rd Period
-Providence was unable to convert on the power play carried over into the third period.
 
-With 4:42 remaining in regulation, the Friars were awarded a power play and converted from senior Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) with 2:53 remaining. Senior Cristina Cavaliere and sophomore Jessie Pellerin (Bowmanville, Ontario) earned the assists.
 
-Kirchmair now has 97 career points, three shy of 100. Only 28 Friars have reached the 100-point milestone.
 
Overtime
-The Huskies won the game in overtime on a goal from Megan Woodworth at 3:24. Maya Serdachny and Julia Pellerin recorded the assists.
 
NOTES
 
-Graduate student goaltender Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) made 21 saves for the Friars.
 
-Providence fell to 42-30-12 all-time against the Huskies.
 
-The Friars are now 3-12-0 against ranked opponents this season.
 
-The overtime loss marked Providence's first overtime loss of the season. The Friars entered the game 4-0-2 in overtime.
