Women’s Hockey Defeated At Merrimack, 3-2

Cristina Cavaliere recorded a goal and an assist.

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Providence College women's hockey team fell to Merrimack College, 3-2, on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Lawler Arena in North Andover, Mass. The Friars dropped to 9-19-2 overall and 6-12-2 in Hockey East play while the Warriors improved to 6-21-3 overall and 3-16-1 in conference action. Senior Cristina Cavaliere (Mississauga, Ontario) recorded a goal and an assist, marking her fourth multi-point game of the season.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
 
1st Period
-At 14:29 of the first period, sophomore Jessie Pellerin (Bowmanville, Ontario) was assessed a five-minute major for boarding.
 
-After three minutes on the kill, the Friars were assessed a two-minute minor, putting the Warriors on a five-on-three power play. Merrimack took the lead with the first goal of the game at 18:29 on the two-man advantage from Olivia Grabianowski. Maria Lindberg and Solveig Gisler recorded the assists.
 
-Providence was awarded a power play with 27 seconds remaining in the period.
 
-Shots on goal were 14-8 in favor of Merrimack after the first.
 
2nd Period
-Merrimack successfully killed off the 1:33 remaining on the Friars' power play to start the period.
 
-With 3:48 remaining in the period, Providence tied the game as junior Kiara Kraft (Churchville, N.Y.) scored. Freshman Molly Farace (Otonabee, Ontario) and senior Cristina Cavaliere (Mississauga, Ontario) recorded the assists. It marked Kraft's fifth goal of the season. Farace recorded her fourth assist of the year while Cavaliere extended her team lead in assists to 17 and her point streak to four games.
 
-The Friars went 0-for-3 on the power play in the period. Shots on goal were 25-18 in favor of Merrimack after 40 minutes.
 
3rd Period
-The Warriors regained the lead nine seconds into the third period on a goal from Madison Vittands, assisted by Olivia Grabianowski.
 
-With the Friars' net empty, the Warriors scored an empty-net goal with 1:31 remaining in regulation from Stina Sandberg, assisted by Emma Pfeffer, to make it 3-1.
 
-Providence cut the lead to 3-2 with four seconds remaining as Cavaliere scored, assisted by junior Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.). The goal and assist marked Cavaliere's fourth multi-point game this season and the sixth of her career.
 
-The Friars outshot the Warriors 23-3 in the third period.
 
Notes
-Graduate student goaltender Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) recorded 25 saves for Providence.
 
-The Friars finish the regular season 2-1-0 against Merrimack.
