PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman goaltender
Bianca Birrittieri (Flower Mound, Texas) and freshman defenseman Mirella Martinelli (North Providence, R.I.) of the Providence College women's hockey team have been invited to the 2026 USA Hockey Women's National Festival. The festival will be held Aug. 2-9 at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.
The group is comprised of 46 collegiate players and 46 players under the age of 18. The 25-player rosters for the U18 Women's National Team and U.S. Collegiate Women's Select Team will be announced at the conclusion of the festival. Both teams will face Canada in a three-game series Aug. 12-15 in Richmond, British Columbia.
Birrittieri recently represented the United States at the 2026 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship, helping Team USA capture the gold medal. In four games, she posted a 0.50 goals-against average, a .975 save percentage and two shutouts, including a 38-save shutout in the gold medal game. She was named Player of the Game for her performance.
Martinelli most recently attended Tabor Academy, where she recorded 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points in 22 games. Prior to Tabor Academy, she attended Lovell Academy for two seasons. In 190 career games at Lovell Academy, Martinelli tallied 97 goals and 163 assists for 260 points, becoming the first defenseman in program history to record 50 goals in a single season.
The festival will mark Birrittieri's third appearance and Martinelli's second.
