PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's hockey team defeated No. 14/15 Holy Cross, 3-2, on Saturday, Feb. 14, at Schneider Arena. The Friars improved to 11-19-2 overall and 8-12-2 in Hockey East play, while the Crusaders fell to 18-11-3 overall and 10-10-3 in conference action. Sophomore

GAME FLOW
1st Period
-The Friars opened the scoring at 13:39 of the first period on a goal by sophomore
Jessie Pellerin (Bowmanville, Ontario), assisted by senior
Cristina Cavaliere (Mississauga, Ontario) and junior
Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.). The goal marked the first time in Pellerin's career she has reached double-digit goals in a season.
-Cavaliere extended her point streak to six games with the assist and now leads the Friars with 19 assists this season.
-Providence has scored five power-play goals in the last five games.
-The Friars successfully killed off two Holy Cross power plays in the period.
-Shots on goal were even at seven apiece after 20 minutes.
2nd Period
-Providence extended its lead to 2-0 just 10 seconds into the period on a goal by senior
Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario). Knapp and sophomore
Hannah Clarke (Richmond Hill, Ontario) recorded the assists. With the goal, Kirchmair reached 99 career points (54 goals, 45 assists). Knapp's second assist of the game marked her sixth multi-point game of the season and the 17th of her career.
-With 1:46 remaining in the period, the Crusaders cut the deficit to 2-1 on a power-play goal by Anna Billa. Charlotte Sonntag and Lane Lewis were credited with the assists.
-Providence held a 16-15 edge in shots on goal after two periods.
3rd Period
-Pellerin extended the Friars' lead to 3-1 at 13:32 of the third period, with assists from Clarke and sophomore
Josie Lang (Stillwater, Minn.). The two-goal performance marked the second multi-goal game of Pellerin's career. It also marked Clarke's second career two-assist game.
-With the net empty and on a power play, Holy Cross cut the lead to 3-2 with 14 seconds remaining on Billa's second goal of the game. Brooklyn Deck and Lewis recorded the assists.
NOTES
-Graduate student goaltender
Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) made 23 saves in the victory.
-The Friars finished the season series 1-2-0 against Holy Cross and improved to 22-2-1 all-time against the Crusaders.
-Providence moved to 6-0-1 when leading after two periods.
-The Friars are now 7-4-1 when scoring a power-play goal.
-Providence improved to 4-12-0 against ranked opponents this season.
