Women’s Hockey Defeated By No. 14/RV Holy Cross, 3-0

Hope Walinski made 20 saves for the Friars.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's hockey team was defeated by No. 14/RV Holy Cross, 3-0, on Saturday, Jan. 24 at Schneider Arena. The Friars fell to 7-17-2 overall and 4-10-2 in Hockey East play while the Crusaders improved to 18-7-1 and 10-6-1. Graduate student goaltender Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) made 20 saves in net.

GAME FLOW
  
1st Period
-Holy Cross opened the scoring on the power play at 8:12 of the first period as Reghan Chadwick found the back of the net. Charlotte Sonntag and Manny Gendron recorded assists.
 
-Providence was assessed four penalties in the opening period. The Crusaders held a two-player advantage for 1:03, but the Friars successfully killed the penalty. Holy Cross carried 34 seconds of power play time into the second period.
 
-Shots on goal after 20 minutes favored Holy Cross, 11-7.
 
2nd Period
-The Crusaders doubled their lead at 11:04 of the second period on an unassisted breakaway goal from Alexia Moreau while teams skated four-on-four.
 
-Providence had two power play opportunities in the period while Holy Cross had one.
 
-The Friars outshot the Crusaders in the second period and held a 20-19 edge in shots on goal through two periods.
 
3rd Period
-With Providence skating with the extra attacker, Holy Cross sealed the game with an empty-net goal from Sonntag, assisted by Brooklyn Deck.
 
-Providence outshot Holy Cross 15-4 in the third period.
 
NOTES
 
-Graduate student goaltender Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) made 20 saves for the Friars.
 
-Providence now holds a 21-2-1 all-time record against Holy Cross. The two teams will meet for the final time in the regular season at Schneider Arena on Saturday, Feb. 14.
 
-The Friars are 4-6-2 at Schneider Arena this season.
