PROVIDENCE, R.I.– Providence College field hockey goalkeeper
Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, Sept. 16. Rice earned league recognition for the third time this season.
Rice recorded her third shut-out victory of the season in the Friars' only game last week, which featured a 1-0 result over Lafayette in a shootout. Rice made six saves during regulation and overtime, and sealed the victory for Providence with three saves in the shootout. Rice has not allowed a goal in the last 212:33 minutes of action, dating back to Sept. 1 in the fourth quarter vs. Maine.
The Friars have compiled a 4-1 overall record and are off to their best five-game start to a season since 2006. That year, Providence got off to a perfect 5-0 start.
Providence returns to action on Friday, Sept. 20 against BIG EAST Conference foe Old Dominion. The match will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. The Friars will close the weekend slate on the road at Fairfield on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1:00 p.m.
