Madison Deeds, Kari Moyer and Maura Ingraham share their experience during the team's international trip.

The Providence College field hockey team is in the midst of a trip to Barcelona, Spain.  The team departed for the trip on March 9 and will return on March 17.  During the trip, the team will participate in training/practice sessions, in addition to playing three matches vs. Egara 35, Club Egara and FC Barcelona. While away from the field, the Friars will immerse themselves in Spanish culture and enjoy the sights of Barcelona.  The team will be checking in periodically to share its travel experience.  In the second blog post of the trip, we'll hear from Madison Deeds, Kari Moyer and Maura Ingraham.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12:  On Wednesday we explored the Montserrat Mountain region. We started off the day by taking a cable car up to the top of the mountain. Some players/coaches were more brave than others (Kelley) when boarding the gondola that would eventually take us up 1,236 meters. Once at the top, we got to explore a beautiful monastery. We took a ton of pictures, of course, and enjoyed the overlook views. At the gift shop before we left, many of us bought keepsakes to take home which ranged from Spanish chocolate, snow globes, mosaic turtles, mint tins, prayer cards and jewelry. We had an early dinner/pregame meal, where some of us found some classic American food!! Mary, on the other hand, thought it would be a good idea to eat a foot long hotdog with bacon before the game....

Our second game of the trip started at 9:30 p.m., and although we had a long day of traveling, the Friars pulled out a win against the Spanish club team (Club Egara), 1-0. The Friars had great movement on the field and a lot of chances to score. As the game went on our press and our off-ball movement became very effective, giving the Friars great opportunities in the circle. After a great win to end a great day in Spain, the Friars traveled back to the hotel to enjoy some pizza and some much needed rest. We're excited to start another day in España mañana!!

THURSDAY, MARCH 13:  Thursday morning started off with some relaxing by the pool. The weather here is beautiful but some may say it's not swimming weather. After a cut-throat game of odds, Corinne had to dive in to the freezing cold pool. Her jump only got the ball rolling and others decided to follow suit. Madison (Skeie), Corinne, Mary and Deeds performed tricks while jumping and doing flips off the small bridge over the pool.

While we wanted the fun to continue, the security guard came out and proclaimed to us "uno mas". With one last jump into the pool, we headed in to get ready for an exciting day of adventure. Before leaving, we had lunch at our hotel and then loaded the bus to Girona. For those who are avid Game of Thrones fans, Cersei walked down the steps of the church we were dropped off at! Of course this created yet another photo opp for our team, and needless to say, there was a lot of slow walking up the steps to get the perfect instagram pic! Girona was a typical, European small town with the picturesque alleyways and multi-colored houses.

The team split up to take on some shopping and then we all met back up to have dinner together at a quaint restaurant. We also got back to our hotel at a much earlier hour than normal, so some of the team played cards and enjoyed a visit from Mary O'Reilly's sister. We will start off tomorrow morning [Friday] gearing up for our final game of the trip in Barcelona. Go Friars!
