PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College field hockey goalkeeper
Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 28. Rice earned the league's top weekly defensive honor for the first time this season, and third time in her career. The 2018 All-BIG EAST Second-Team honoree posted two shut-out victories last week.
On Oct. 25, she collected five saves in a 2-0 victory over BIG EAST foe Georgetown. The win solidified the Friars' spot in the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament for the fourth-straight season. On Oct. 27, Rice held Rider scoreless for just the third time this season, with three saves, to earn a 1-0 victory. The Broncs entered the match ranked 15
th in NCAA Division I field hockey in goals per game (2.79), with two individual players ranked in the top-10 nationally in points per game.
Rice has posted six shutouts this season, and now owns 11 clean sheets in her career. Her six shutouts are the most by a Friar goalkeeper in a single season since 2006. That year, BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and NFHCA Third-Team All-American Rachel Chamberlain '10 recorded seven shutouts.

th-ranked Friars will conclude the regular-season schedule against No. 17 Liberty on Friday, Nov. 1 at 3:00 p.m. The BIG EAST match-up is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+. The winner of Friday's match will earn the No. 3 seed in the 2019 BIG EAST Field Hockey Tournament, while the loser will claim the No. 4 seed. The tournament is scheduled for Nov. 8-10 in Hamden, Conn.
Providence has won seven of its last eight game, including five-straight matches heading into the final weekend of the season. The team has posted a 12-5 overall record, including a 4-2 mark in the BIG EAST Conference.
