Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

ORLANDO, FLA. - The Providence College Softball team played two games against Stetson University on March 7 in Orlando, Fla. The Friars fell to the Hatters 5-2 in the first game and 5-3 in the second game.
In the first game of the day, Providence began the scoring in the first inning. Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) hit a double. Lundstrom advanced on a fielder's choice from Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.) and then scored on an error when Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.) hit a ground ball to the short stop.
The Friars scored two more runs in the top of the second inning. With two outs in the inning, Allison Abbatiello (North Salem, N.Y.) hit a single. Paige Mulry (West Roxbury, Mass.) then walked and pushed Abbatiello to second. Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) then doubled to right field, scoring both Abbatiello and Mulry.
Heading into the top of the top of the 4th, Providence was leading 3-0. Mulry hit a homerun to increase the lead to 4-0. The Hatters responded by scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 4. Stetson would score again in the bottom of the 5th to take the lead, 5-4. This would prove to be the final score.
Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) pitched a complete game in the loss. Ramirez's record on the season is now 2-3.
Lee and Mulry both tallied two hits in the loss.
The Friars again struck first in the second game. Lee began the game by singling to right field. Lundstrom then followed this up with a double, with Lee advancing to third. After a popout by Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.), Portillo hit an RBI single to drive in Lee.
Stetson scored two runs in the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd inning to lead 4-1.
Providence cut into the lead in the top of the 4th. Veler began the inning with a double up the left field line. Veler was driven in by an RBI single by Mulry to cut the lead to 4-2. In the bottom of the 4th, Stetson scored another run to lead 5-2.
The Friars attempted to rally in the top of the 7th. The inning began with a walk by Portillo and advanced after Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) hit into a fielder's choice. After a strike out by Veler, Nadia Kemp (Wappinger's Falls, N.Y.) hit a single and advanced Portillo to third. Abbatiello then hit an RBI single to score Portillo and cut the lead to 5-3. The score would remain unchanged as the Friars lost the game, 5-3.
Michaela Veneziali (Pine Bush, N.Y.) pitched five innings, giving up 3 runs and 8 hits in the loss. Veneziali now has a record of 0-1 on the season.
Lee had two hits in the loss.
The Friars next play on March 8 at the Osceola Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. with a game against Niagara. Providence will face the Purple Eagles at 1:30 p.m.
